Pocket Imperium

Card game

3 players • 45 minutes

What you need

You need the 18 cards, 45 counters in 3 colours, plus a way to keep score.

War has erupted across the Imperium! Three spacefaring races struggle for supremacy, launching fleets of starships across the galaxy to battle for control of the most prosperous systems. Only one race will successfully Expand, Explore, Exploit and Exterminate their way to victory!

About the game

I have always enjoyed so-called ‘4X’ games, a genre of empire-building strategy boardgames and video games that invite players to expand, explore, exploit and exterminate!

You will need to use the opportunities of those four core actions to your best advantage. The timing of when to build your fleets, when to explore the stars, and when to invade systems controlled by your opponents, will be crucial in your quest to rule the Imperium.

Plus, in a crowded galaxy, you must choose wisely when to make alliances to bring down powerful enemies — and when to break those pacts to critically weaken your former allies!

Pocket Imperium is my homage to this genre, boiled down to just 18 cards.

About the designer

David J. Mortimer is a fellow member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, but asks you not to hold this against him. He is married with two sons, genetically bred for playtesting boardgames.

He has always enjoyed designing boardgames for the pleasure of his friends and family, and has decided it is time to share his passion with the wider world. Pocket Imperium is his first published design, but he has many more prototypes and ideas which he hopes will be published in the future.
